How to Apply For an Imagery Grant

The GeoEye Foundation provides satellite imagery grants to support research projects at the university level and within non-governmental organizations. Imagery
grants are used to advance research in environmental studies, humanitarian support and disaster relief, as well as geographic information systems (GIS)
and technologies.

Application Criteria

The GeoEye Foundation's Employee Advisory Committee (FEAC) reviews all applications for imagery grants, considering each application on a case-by-case basis. Applicants will be granted a limited amount of archive imagery (a few hundred square kilometers) at no cost, provided the following criteria are met:

  • The applicant must be enrolled as a student or a faculty member at an accredited university-level educational institution/organization. If enrolled as a student, the applicant must be an active participant in an accredited research program. The applicant’s area of study/research must be provided in the application, as must the contact information for the applicant’s faculty advisor.
  • Applicants must agree to provide feedback in the form of an article, thesis or white paper.
  • The data may not be used commercially or shared with anyone who might use it commercially.

Special considerations can be made for analysts or researchers at non-governmental organizations who may be conducting research to benefit humanitarian or environmental efforts.


How to Apply for an Imagery Grant

If you are interested in applying for an imagery grant, please read through the following procedures:


1. Complete the Satellite Imagery Request Form.

2. Choose your desired imagery scenes or areas of interest using the GeoFUSE tool.

Each request will be reviewed by the internal Foundation Employee Advisory Committee (FEAC), which will make all determinations as to which imagery requests will be granted.

Notification and Delivery

All applicants will be notified of the Foundation's decision via e-mail after the application has been reviewed by the FEAC. Once an applicant has been approved, the
recipient's imagery request will be ordered, processed and shipped by the Foundation's Program Manager according to the recipient's delivery specifications.
Every attempt will be made to complete the imagery grant process before the requested deadline.
